Getting Started
Short guides for the most common ways to get a recipe into Braised.
Add a recipe from a link
Found a recipe on a site like NYT Cooking, Serious Eats, or any food blog? Import it straight from the URL.
- Go to Library → Add recipe.
- Copy the recipe's page URL from your browser, then paste it into the "Import from a URL" box.
- Click Import. We fetch the page, strip out ads and site chrome, and parse what's left.
- Review the pre-filled form — fix anything that looks off — then save.
Email yourself a recipe
Every account gets a personal email address. Forward a recipe email, or just type one out and send it — either way, it lands in your inbox for review before it's saved.
- Find your inbox address in Settings, under "Your recipe inbox address."
- Email a recipe to that address — forward it from wherever you found it, or type or paste the recipe straight into a new email.
- Open Recipe Inbox once it arrives. Parsing usually takes a few seconds.
- Review the parsed recipe, use Edit to fix anything, then click Approve to add it to your library — or Dismiss to throw it away.
Paste in recipe text
Got recipe text somewhere else — notes, an email forward, a whole blog post, even a collection of several recipes? Paste it straight in.
- Go to Library → Add recipe.
- Paste the text into the "Or paste recipe text" box. It can be one recipe or several — we'll detect the boundaries.
- Click Detect & parse.
- If we found more than one recipe, review the whole batch and untick anything you don't want before saving. If it's just one, you'll land straight on a pre-filled form.
Snap a photo of a recipe
Photo import turns a picture of a cookbook page or handwritten recipe card into a structured recipe. It's part of Braised Plus. This includes photos you email to your inbox address.
- Go to Library → Add recipe.
- Use the "Photo of a recipe" option and choose or take pictures — up to 3 per recipe. Add more if it spans multiple pages, up to that limit.
- We'll warn you if a page looks like it's cut off mid-recipe, so you can add the next page before saving.
- Review the parsed recipe and save.
A few quick answers
What if it gets something wrong?
Every import — link, email, paste, or photo — lands on an editable review screen before anything is saved. Fix ingredients, steps, or anything else, then save. Nothing is final until you approve it.
Is this free?
Importing from a link, pasted text, and emailed text or links are all free. Emailed photos are part of Braised Plus, just like the photo option above — see Upgrade for details.
Is my data private?
Yes — see our Privacy Policy for the details.
